This master's program is designed to prepare educators for a variety of professional positions in educational settings, including school building level, school district level and alternative schools. The primary focus of the study is on integration of technology into the school curriculum. Courses range across skill development to exploring the literature and theory base for using technology within the learning environment.

Course delivery

Iowa Communications Network (ICN)
Courses in this program are offered primarily via the ICN. Delivery of ICN programs is limited to the state of Iowa.

MyCourses
Courses in this program have an online component utilizing MyCourses, a computer conferencing program requiring Internet access and a web browser — no additional software is required. Students may need access to someone who can assist with computer set-up.

Current ideas influencing the planning and implementation of curriculum.

230:212 Methods and Materials in Literacy Education, 3 credit hours
Integrated approach to language learning within and across grades K-12, with a strong emphasis on reading and writing connections within content areas and across children’s and young adult literature.

240:131g Technology in Education, 3 credit hours
Issues confronting contemporary education and the effective integration of technology to support learning. Investigation of the historical, social and scientific uses of technology in education from various perspectives.

240:139g Media Planning and Production, 3 credit hours
Planning steps essential for media production; processes, equipment, techniques and services needed for the production, duplication and release of media.

240:140g Using Databases in Education, 3 credit hours

240:170g Principles of Publication Design, 3 credit hours
Focus on evaluation and design of electronically-produced materials. Hands-on experiences with desktop publishing.

240:232 Selection and Integration of Materials, 3 credit hours
Evaluation of the instructional setting along with the procedures for selection and integration of materials.

240:237 Coordinating Technology, 3 credit hours
Examination of the many roles assumed by a technology coordinator in an educational setting. Exploration of the processes of technology planning, management and support in both theory and through practical applications.

240:240 Instructional Development, 3 credit hours
Analysis and synthesis for structuring learning environments including learner, task, environmental and instructional strategy analysis.

240:260 Advanced Media Projects, 1 credit hours

240:289 Seminar: Writing Research Papers, 1 credit hour

240:289 Seminar: Reading Research, 1 credit hour

240:299 Research, 2 credit hours

250:205 Educational Research, 3 credit hours
Evaluation of educational research concepts, including purposes, hypotheses, principles of research design, data collection and interpretation of results.
