Highly successful and inspirational, these three innovative teachers and virtuosic performing artists return to present an expanded 4-day, high-energy “Passion Flute II” Seminar. Enhance your individual skills through innovative workshops and master classes. Explore your artistic personality through creative foundations and fundamentals, morning warm-ups, repertoire development, stage presentation, flute choir/ensembles and more.

Who Should Attend

Advanced high school to college undergraduate and graduate, adult to professional and flutists of all ages who are ready to move to the next level. High school students seeking credit must meet UNI’s requirements for dual enrollment.

Ways to Attend

Performer $575, includes all meals
Play in the master class for all three teachers’ daily rotations, participate in the morning warm-up classes, attend recitals, participate in flute choir and ensemble sessions, afternoon workshops, and performance on the final student recital. For qualifying students, two hours of college credit is available at no additional cost. Completion of a reflective journal is required.

Participant $475, includes all meals
Play once for an assigned master teacher, participate in the morning warm-up classes, attend recitals, participate in flute choir and ensemble sessions, afternoon workshops, and performance on the final student recital. For qualifying students, two hours of college credit is available at no additional cost. Completion of a reflective journal is required.

Resident Auditor $385, includes all meals
Observe all sessions and recitals. If time allows, receive a lesson with a master teacher for an additional fee.

Daily Auditor $75/day, plus meals
Observe selected sessions and recitals, possibly attend morning warm-up classes. If time allows, receive a lesson with a master teacher for an additional fee.

On-campus housing is available.
$76 for double occupancy
$92 for single occupancy
Prices cover stay for entire seminar (Wednesday night through Saturday night).

Seminar artists

Angeleita Floyd

A dynamic musician, conductor, and highly respected educator, Angeleita Floyd has been Professor of Flute at the University of Northern Iowa since 1986. Most recently, she was a featured guest artist at the 2007 National Flute Association Convention in Albuquerque, NM. As a student of the eminent English flutist Geoffrey Gilbert, Floyd wrote the highly acclaimed text The Gilbert Legacy: Methods, Exercises and Techniques for the Flutist and founded Winzer Press Publishing. With a unique flair for insightful teaching, along with sensitive musical interpretation, Dr. Floyd has fostered numerous prize-winning students on the regional and national level.  She has been in high demand as a guest artist, teacher and conductor at international flute festivals and residencies throughout the United States, South and Central America, Sweden and Europe. Adding to her distinguished musical career, Floyd has served as President of the National Flute Association, as well as Program Chair and Young Artist Competition Coordinator. Jill Felber

Hailed for her “beautifully finished performances” by The Detroit News and praised by Musical America for her “handsome performance,” Jill Felber has performed solo recitals, chamber music and concertos on four continents and has held residencies in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, and the United States. An enthusiastic promoter of new music, Felber is currently engaged in many commissioning projects. She has premiered more than 300 works for the flute and has released world premiere recordings for Centaur Records, CRI, and Neuma Records. Holding degrees from the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University, Felber has taught on the faculties of Ohio University, Capital University, and Wright State University. She is currently Professor of Flute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Principal Flute with the Santa Barbara Grand Opera. View complete biography

Claudia Anderson

Claudia Anderson’s brilliance and originality as a solo performer (“Flute playing of the highest echelon” — New York Concert Artists Guild; “Vast range of sonorities” — Giornale di Sicilia) have graced audiences throughout the U.S., Europe, and Brazil. A Fulbright scholar to Italy, she returned to the U.S. where she played Solo Piccolo with the Cedar Rapids Symphony for ten years. Presently, she holds the position of Principal Flute with the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony.  As a popular guest artist and clinician at colleges and music series around the country, Dr. Anderson is exclusively a Miyazawa artist, performing with flutist Jill Felber in the innovative duo ZAWA! During the summer months, Anderson teaches on the artist faculty of Rocky Ridge Music Center, Colorado, and serves as Program Director for the Junior Seminars.  Currently, Dr. Anderson is a member of the faculty at Grinnell College, Iowa. Sean Botkin

Pianist Sean Botkin began studying the piano at age five with his mother, making his first orchestral appearance four years later with the Honolulu Symphony. Reactions to Mr. Botkin's performances typically are expressed with phrases such as "multidimensional talents", "superb musicianship", and "beautiful and rare musical experience".  A prize-winning artist, Mr. Botkin received his Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, studying with Martin Canin, and received his Artist Diploma from Indiana University at South Bend where he was part of the adjunct faculty and a member of the Alexander Toradze Piano Studio. Mr. Botkin has traveled extensively across Europe and America performing with Maestro Toradze and the Studio. Mr. Botkin is currently Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Northern Iowa.
