This workshop is designed to provide teachers the opportunity to learn about the geology of Iowa through a week-long, activity-based, short course taught at the University of Northern Iowa and at selected geological sites in Eastern Iowa. Earn two semester hours of graduate credit for participating in this workshop.
Obtain practical experience in the field and in the laboratory that you can use with your own students. Develop rock, mineral, and fossil collections and obtain a basic proficiency in their identification. Focus on the significance of these items in understanding and interpreting Earth’s history and the geology of Iowa and investigate the economic aspects of geology and the importance of geological resources to the citizens of Iowa.
