COHORT INFORMATION
Cohort 2008

The UNI Department of Curriculum and Instruction is proposing a Graduate Early Childhood Education Endorsement Program (GECEEP) to interested educational professionals. This endorsement program is designed for infant through Grade 3 teachers.

Enrollment Criteria

Completion of the UNI admission requirements for graduate students. All coursework is graduate level. Completion of the GRE not required.
Current Iowa elementary education teaching license
Teaching experience documentation (if applicable)
Program orientation on the UNI campus MAY 31, 2008; 9:30 am – 3:30 pm; Schindler Education Center 121-122
Access to the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and the Internet. Coursework will be completed online and/or via the ICN with the exception of the final course and second practicum which may be offered face-to-face at the UNI Child Development Center for the Infant/Toddler practicum.

Prior Experience Waiver

Applicants requesting waiver of up to 40 field experience hours must provide verification of experience with the diverse populations and settings required for the ED100 endorsement. Decisions of waiver will be made on an individual basis from information in the Applicant’s Record of Experiences form.

The following criteria will be enforced:

Prior work or field experiences will only apply toward waiver of field experience hours at the same age level as the prior experience.
Prior experiences may fulfill up to 25% of the total field experience hours required for any individual course in the program.
Waiver of field experience hours will not excuse students from completing all requirements for each course in the program.

Tuition and fees

Tuition (2008-09) is $359 per graduate credit hour and may rise slightly each year. Each course has a technology fee of approximately $25.

Course delivery

Iowa Communications Network (ICN)
Courses in this program are offered primarily via the ICN. Delivery of ICN programs is limited to the state of Iowa.

UNI campus
Summer sessions in this program may involve some on-campus or central site study.

WebCT
Courses in this program have an online component utilizing WebCT, a computer conferencing program requiring Internet access and a web browser — no additional software is required. Students may need access to someone who can assist with computer set-up.
