410/830:166g Environmental and Occupational Health Regulations, 3 credit hours
Overview of environmental and occupational safety laws applied to the practice of and environmental science. Emphasis on application of the legislation with a focus on regulations. Major environmental laws such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act will be covered. Such topics as food safety, water quality, emergent diseases and toxins will be considered. Prerequisite, UNI students: junior standing

Summer 2007

410/830:165g Environmental Health Science, 3 credit hours
Provides a comprehensive survey of the manner in which human health and the quality and state of the natural environment interact. Prerequisite, UNI students: junior standing

Fall 2007

410:189/289 Determinants of Environmental Health, 3 credit hours
The social, economic and individual determinants of environmental health will be examined through an integrative, ecological model that seeks to understand environmental health concerns from both a contextual (societal, policy, the built environment) and an individual perspective (race, gender, age, genetics). Prerequisites, UNI students: junior standing for 410:189; graduate student standing for 410:289

Spring 2008

410:178g Health Advocacy, Social Action and Policy Development, 3 credit hours
Knowledge and skills related to community organizing, coalition building, conflict resolution, political action and policy development as those processes relate to the health of individuals and communities. Prerequisite, UNI students: junior standing

Summer 2008

410:163g Human Diseases, 3 credit hours
Systematic approach to the study of human diseases emphasizing common physical disorders afflicting humans. Special emphasis given to developmental disorders, inheritance, cardiovascular disease, cancer and infectious diseases, along with other common diseases. Current trends in diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures. Prerequisites, UNI students: 410:112 or both 840:101 and 840:102; junior standing
