Education of the Gifted Endorsement

To be notified about new Iowa Education of the Gifted Teaching Endorsement cohort offerings, please complete the online interest form to the right and we will contact you as information becomes available. The next cohort is scheduled to begin Fall 2013.

Enroll in a course

To enroll in the fall cohort, you must have an Iowa teaching certificate, the basic required technology skills, a desire to learn more about and support preK-12 gifted education and the ability to think complexly and creatively.

The next step is to submit an online enrollment form. Estimated graduate tuition for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 courses is $431 per unit of credit, plus a technology fee of $63 ($31.50 per course). All courses in the program are offered online via eLearning, a Blackboard learning management system requiring Internet access and a web browser.

We encourage you to enroll as soon as possible. The Office of Continuing and Distance Education will send you a confirmation of your enrollment and the textbook information approximately one month before the courses begin.

Add the endorsement to your teaching license

After you have successfully completed the required endorsement courses, you may add the endorsement to your Iowa teaching license. Obtain the Application to Add an Endorsement from the Board of Educational Examiners. Print off the application, complete Section I, attach the required fee (made payable to the Board of Educational Examiners) and mail the form and fee to:

Upon receipt of your application, the Record Analyst will complete the institutional section and forward the form and fee to the Board of Educational Examiners in Des Moines for processing. The Board of Educational Examiners will send the updated license directly to you at the address listed on your application.
