COMM 4133/5133 WKSP: Effective Listening, Effective Thinking for High School Competition in the Conceptual Age -- 1 unit(s)
This workshop will explore concepts and strategies for incorporating effective listening and critical thinking skills into a successful speech program. By fostering intrinsic motivation through speech participation, students who engage in extra-curricular speech programs are better able to express themselves and their understanding of critical issues through effective research and thinking. This workshop looks at ways in which we can interweave listening, thinking and the "six senses" (Daniel Pink) of the conceptual age--design, story, symphony, empathy, play and meaning. Participants will explore, discuss and participate in application and hands-on activities that blend these concepts into coaching strategies. This is intended to be a blended course where students participate via on-line assignments and in a face-to-face setting.
