Purpose:
- To provide one-to-one assistance to help students achieve personal and academic growth.
Key Qualifications:
- Genuine interest in students
- Willingness to serve as a role model
- Commitment to success of students, self, and program
- Ability to listen and communicate with students
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet weekly with mentee during scheduled time.
- Check in and out of school office or designated location.
- Inform school if you are unable to meet with student.
- Establish goals to be accomplished as part of relationship.
- Submit brief progress report to staff.
- Participate in training, sharing and evaluation meetings with other mentors and staff.
- Keep information about student confidential.
- Enjoy the opportunity to help student grow personally and academically.
Time Commitment:
- One hour weekly at Black Hawk Elementary School
- If mentor wants to spend time beyond the one hour at school, mentor may apply to become a Big Brother/Big Sister. This allows mentor and mentee to spend time together off campus in the evenings, weekends, and summer.
Time and Day Preferences Will be Honored:
- Morning: Between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm
- Lunch: 12:00 to 1:00 pm
- Afternoon: Between 1:00 and 3:30 pm
