Wednesday, April 01, 2009 Department of Communications Public Relations Camp for high school sophomores and juniors set for April 30Dear Prospective Panther,
Hello from the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa! We would like to invite you to the first Department of Communications Public Relations camp. The Public Relations program at UNI has been named the ''premier'' public relations education program in the country. As of 1999, UNI has over 1,300 public relations graduates in the United States working in many various professional positions. It is now with great pleasure that the students of the public relations program at UNI will be holding a day camp for high school sophomores and juniors to explore the field of Public Relations.
The camp will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2009. Students will arrive on campus at 7:30 a.m. and will depart around 3:00 p.m. UNI Public Relations Alumni, Katie Kenne and Brooke Ehlers, will speak to students about opportunities available with Sports and Agency Public Relations. Tim Albrecht, former Iowa Speaker of the House, will be the event's Keynote Speaker, sharing the benefits of his UNI education in the political world. Not only will students be able to hear from former public relations students, but they will also be able to interact with current students in the public relations program. UNI's chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will present a panel, allowing students will be able to ask questions about the major, PRSSA, and college life at UNI. Students will also have the chance to observe a public relations class and eat lunch in the Rialto Dining Center. Additionally, tours will also be available for students and their parents who would like to see more of the campus.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided to students and parents attending the UNI Public Relations Camp. There is a $15 fee for students and $10 fee for parents. For more information, please contact Dr. Gayle Pohl at gayle.pohl@uni.edu.
