Tuesday, October 28, 2008 UNI Speech Team Wins Awards at First Twin Cities Forensics League TournamentCEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Individual Events Speech Team traveled to the first Twin Cities Forensics League Tournament on Oct. 21. In addition to taking third place in the team sweepstakes, the UNI team achieved the following individual results:
Anna McDermott, a sophomore political science major from Des Moines, won first place in poetry interpretation and second place in communication analysis.
Emma Peterson, a sophomore communication/electronic media major from Ankeny, won second place in both poetry interpretation and informative speaking.
At the Larry Schnoor Invitational at Minnesota State University-Mankato on Oct. 18, Ashlee Lopez, a senior communication studies major from Bettendorf, qualified for the American Forensics Association Tournament in the spring with her program oral interpretation performance.
The Individual Events Team is coached by Rebecca Buel, UNI instructor in communication studies. Katherine Lavelle, UNI assistant professor of communication studies, is director of forensics.
