ACCS Guidelines for
Official Responsibilities of Special Committees and Chairs
General
Within a month of appointment, each committee chair shall draft and
submit to the Executive Committee a plan for his/her respective area
during his/her tenure in the office. The Executive Committee as a whole
may suggest changes to the plan if needed and will oversee the execution
of the propsed plans.
Committee chairs are trusted with the authority to nominate one or
two members to serve on the committee. Committee members report to the
respective committee chairs. Committee member nominations shall be
submitted to the Executive Committee together with the action plan for
final approval.

The Research Committee
The Chair of the Research Committee has the responsibility to
initiate and coordinate research efforts among the membership to promote
work related to the interest of ACCS as a whole.
Specifically, the Research Committee Chair shall assist the Immediate
Past President in planning the ACCS program for the annual NCA
conference in the following ways: Research Chair shall come up with
specific ideas for one or more panels and actively contact and
coordinate with members and non-members in putting together panel
proposals for NCA annual conferences. The committee shall actively
explore possibilities of co-sponsoring NCA panels with other divisions
and make suggestions to the progam planner (the Immediate Past
President).
Additionally, the Research Committee is responsible for coordination
with ACCS members interested in getting involved in other communication
conferences such as ICA, ECA, CSCA, WSCA, SSCA, and other conferences.
The Chair may delegate the tasks to committee members. This committee's
work however does not preclude members own initiatives.

The External Affairs Committee
The Chair of the External Affairs has the responsibility to promote
ACCS to the "outside world" for general recruitment purposes and for
gaining and increasing visibility of ACCS.
Specifically, the External Affairs Committee Chair shall make contact
with organizations that have missions related or similar to that of ACCS.
Additionally, the External Affairs Committee shall coordinate with
the Research Committee for matters such as co-sponsoring events or
programs with other than communication organizations. This task includes
promotion of ACCS's research profile and presence at other conferences
or on other occasions. The External Affair Chair is to facilitate and
coordinate such efforts on behalf of ACCS in dealing with other
organizations.

The Student
Committee
The Chair of the Student Committee has the responsibility to recruit
student members and act as the student representative and advocate.
Specifically, this Chair shall regularly collect and report to the
Executive Committee concerns from our student members, suggestions for
better serving students, and any other related matters.
