Visiting Artist Amy K. Kilgard to Appear in Solo Performance -- Triskaidekaphobia: 13 Consumer Tragedies
University of Northern Iowa Interpreter’s Theatre presents Triskaidekaphobia: 13 Consumer Tragedies, a solo performance created and performed by Amy K. Kilgard and directed by Alexis Litzky. This playful performance explores our consumption practices and offers ideas for how we might change future practices. In Triskaidekaphobia, thirteen characters face the perils of consumerism. A cashier becomes consumed by her big-box store. A compulsive collector reconciles his obsessions. From Kilgard’s own retail experiences to others’ (sometime) bizarre customer service interactions, Triskaidekaphobia explores commercial rhetoric as well as everyday and aesthetic performances of consumerism.
Amy Kilgard is an Associate Professor at San Francisco State University. Currently she is touring Triskaidekaphobia: 13 Consumer Tragedies. As a visiting artist at the University of Northern Iowa from April 22-April 24, Kilgard is offering workshops in several Performance Studies courses, visiting SAVE (Students Against a Violent Environment), and meeting with students. Join Amy Kilgard for her performance of Triskaidekaphobia in the Interpreter’s Theatre (Lang 040) on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, limited seating.
