UNI Speech and Debate Teams Get Quality Wins over Winter Break

Friday, Jan 18, 2013

The extended holiday break allowed the UNI Speech and  Debate teams to travel to national level tournaments without missing class, which is always a bonus. The debate team traveled to Dallas, TX, to compete at two, three day tournaments at the University of North Texas and the University of Texas-Dallas. The team had a number of quality wins, including against district rivals the University of Minnesota. They also defeated a team from the University of Georgia, among others. The debate team will be heading to Bloomington, IN this weekend to compete at Indiana University, where they will have the chance to compete against a number of debate schools, including Emory University (GA) and John Carroll University, my alma mater! Go Debate Panthers! :)

The speech team had a successful run at the Hell Froze Over Tournament (hosted at Bradley University). This tournament is hosted by Bradley University in odd numbered years, and the University of Texas-Austin in even numbered years. The team was 4th in Team Sweepstakes at the first day of the tournament, and several of the students won individual awards!
