Ten Years of Building Career Momentum

Introduction

The electronic media industry is a competitive business. Employers want new hires who can immediately provide value in today’s economically-challenged environment.

In its tenth year, UNI’s Fast Forward Electronic Media Workshop continues to bring working professionals to college students, simply to help electronic media students learn how to get ahead in their careers. Students pick the workshops they want to attend and hear industry experts discuss the best practices that helped them control and further their electronic media careers. Whether it is video producing, directing, editing, radio or TV journalism, Fast Forward gives you ideas and insight to understand the fast-changing electronic media industry.

Over the years the workshop has attracted an impressive list of keynote speakers that includes Mark Steines (Home and Family Show - Hallmark Channel), Krista Voda (Fox Sports), Mary Quass (President/CEO- NRG Media), and Kevin Cooney (KCCI-TV).

The workshop has attracted as many as 190 people (attendees and presenters) from numerous educational institutions such as the University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Briar Cliff University, Wartburg College, Loras College, Dordt College, Kirkwood Community College, Marshalltown Community College, Hawkeye Community College, Cedar Falls High School, Waterloo West High School, Waterloo East High School, Union High School, Charles City High School, Applington-Parkersburg High School, West Des Moines Dowling High School, Des Moines Area Schools Central Campus, West Dubuque High School, and Muscatine High School.

If you have questions about the workshop, contact Dr. Ronnie Bankston at Ronnie.Bankston@uni.edu.
