Introduction

The electronic media industry is a competitive business. Employers want new hires who can immediately provide value in today’s economically-challenged environment.

In its eighth year, UNI’s Fast Forward electronic media workshop continues to bring working professionals to college students, simply to help broadcast students learn how to get ahead in their careers. Students pick the workshops they want to attend and hear industry experts discuss the best practices that helped them control and further their broadcast careers. Whether it is video production, editing, radio or TV journalism, Fast Forward gives you ideas and insight to understand the fast-changing broadcast industry.

More than 150 students, who are interested in broadcasting, from colleges and high schools attended the workshop in 2011. Fast Forward is endorsed by the Iowa Broadcasters Association. It also provides funds to cover registration costs for all attendees. Past speakers have included Mark Steines from Entertainment Tonight and Krista Voda, a pit reporter for NASCAR on the Fox network.
