Debate and Speech Teams Prepare for Nationals

Friday, Mar 15, 2013

Greetings all!

I hope that this email finds you well - the team is busy with national travel!

The debate team will compete at two national tournaments. The team of Abbie Shew and Katie Evans (first year students) will compete at NJDDT at Johnson County this weekend. They will compete against 36 two person teams representing 16 schools, including Baylor University, the University of Kansas, and Trinity University (TX). Over spring break, Abbie and her season partner, Zach Simonson, will compete at CEDA Nationals. CEDA is the largest 2 person nationals in policy debate, with 152 two person teams representing 58 separate schools. The debate team is directed by Richard Tews and assisted by GTA, Allie Chase.

The speech team will compete at AFA-NIET the first weekend in April and NFA Nationals the third weekend in April. We will have more details on qualifiers closer to the tournament, but if you would like a sneak preview of nationals - please attend the Annual Speech Showcase on March 27, 2013 in Lang Auditorium. Doors open at 6:45 and the event will begin at 7 p.m. Please come for a great evening of speech excellence! The event is free and open to the public.

Thank you so much for your support and have a wonderful spring break!

All the best,
Kate
