Co-Director of Individual Events, Sadé Barfield

Ms. Barfield (M.A., University of Northern Iowa) has routinely produced students that have received national recognition at both the American Forensics Association (AFA) and National Forensics Association (NFA) Nationals. During her time coaching, UNI has achieved 10th place at the AFA nationals in 2012, 2013, and 2014 as well as producing a national champion in Impromptu speaking in 2013.

Co-Director of Individual Events, Joshua Hamzehee

Over each of the past six years, Josh Hamzehee (M.A., California State University, Long Beach) has coached multiple interpretation and platform speaking events to national final rounds at both the American Forensics Association and National Forensics Association national tournaments, and has coached After Dinner Speaking finalists and champions at various national circuit tournaments in each of those years. Over the past three years he has helped coach UNI speech to back-to-back-to-back 10th-in-the-nation finishes at AFA (2012, 2013, 2014), a 10th place finish at NFA (2013) with only 3 competitors attending the tournament, and before his time at UNI he helped CSULB to back-to-back 6th place AFA finishes (2009, 2010), with multiple national finalists there as well.

Director of Debate, Richard Tews

Richard Tews (M.A., Miami University) has coached UNI teams to the NDT, CEDA and the National Junior Division Debate Tournament (NJDDT) National Championships. In 2011, Mr. Tews coached the third place team at the NJDDT, and an NDT qualifying team in 2011. In 2013, he coached a UNI team that made it to the Triple Octafinals at CEDA National Debate Tournament at Idaho State University. Prior to coaching at UNI, Mr. Tews qualified teams to the NDT from two different schools, including a team that reached the elimination rounds twice.
