Graduate Instructions
Fall 2009 Commencement will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the UNI-DOME. Fall and Summer degree candidates are invited and encouraged to participate in the Fall 2009 ceremonies. The ceremonies generally take one and one-half, to one and threequarters hours.
Note: The following is a copy of the letter which will be sent the end of October to graduating students, or to those students who have indicated they wish to walk through the Fall 2009 ceremony. The list of Colleges and Departments is immediately following the letter. The yellow postcard mentioned in the first paragraph is a reply card which will be mailed with the graduation packet. You will need to fill out the yellow card and return to the Registrar’s Office indicating if you are planning to attend the graduation ceremony. You will also indicate on the yellow card your diploma mailing address.
A yellow card for your reply has been enclosed which must be returned by Friday, November 13th, 2009. The card must have a mailing address for your diploma. Any subsequent change in this diploma mailing address should be reported directly to irene.elbert@uni.edu. The name of each candidate participating will be read from the yellow cards. Individual commencement photos will be taken by Jolesch Photography, Des Moines, Iowa. Proofs will be sent directly to you. Please fill out both sides of the yellow card and mail back to our office using the return envelope provided.
Students should report to the East concourse side of the UNI-Dome by 9:30 am to line up for the morning ceremony. There will be an instruction sheet and seating diagram in the line-up area. You will find a list of Colleges and Departments following this letter to help you identify your college. NOTE: If you are a teaching major, you would sit with the college of your major NOT the College of Education. (EX: Art Education would sit with Humanities and Fine Arts).
Check the signs on the end seats of the rows to find your seat. Seating for students in the Division of Continuing Education and Special Programs will be alphabetical; seating for other colleges will be alphabetical within majors in the department. Graduate students will be in a separate seating section in alphabetical order by college. Your yellow reader's card will be on your chair for you to pick up along with, in some cases, a red College and/or green Department card stapled to the yellow card. The cards MUST REMAIN STAPLED TOGETHER to be given to the card reader, so that they may read these cards to announce the colleges and departments. Please fill out the survey form and read the instruction sheet while you are waiting in the seating area.
Guests should be instructed to use the West entrances if possible, since public seating will be on the West side of the Dome. Access is also possible by coming through the tunnel on the East side of the Dome, across the Dome floor, and climbing up into the West seating areas. There are no tickets required for the general public seating areas.
General Information: Standard announcements are available at University Book & Supply, 1009 W. 23rd Street, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613. We advise that extremely high heels not be worn, because you will be going down stairs.
