Financial Aid and Scholarships

Students are encouraged to contact the UNI Financial Aid Office to determine their eligibility for university grants and scholarships as well as student loan programs. UNI grants are institutional awards made to students based on financial need. The amount of these awards ranges from $200 to $2300. Students should obtain a financial aid booklet from the Financial Aid Office to identify scholarships, such as the Irene M. Thompson Award, that are available for students in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Undergraduate Scholarships:

 

Humpal-Guthart Sertoma Scholarship

1. Amount: $250 to $500 annually 2. When? Awarded in April 3. For whom? “Needy and deserving student of at least junior standing” 4. Competition Pool: Departmental 5. How to apply: • See UNI’s Financial Aid – Common Scholarship Application • Application due February 15

 

Dean’s Award

1. Amount: $500 to $700 2. When? Awarded in April 3. For whom? Student majoring within College of Humanities and Fine Arts, UNI only. Must have overall GPA of at least 3.5 4. Lois Shefte Potter Scholarship Award

1. Amount: $1000 to $2000 2. When? Awarded in April for following academic year 3. For whom? Applications are accepted from 2nd semester juniors 4. Competition pool: Departmental 5. How to apply: • See UNI’s Financial Aid – Common Scholarship Application • Application due February 15

 

CHFA Junior/Senior Scholarship Award

1. Amount: $1000 (four scholarships) 2. When? Awarded in April for following academic year 3. For whom? 2nd semester sophomore, junior, or senior who is enrolled in fall classes as a communicative disorders major 4. Competition pool: Departmental 5. Pauline Mann Mitchell Book Purchase Award

1. Amount: $100-$200 deposited to student’s U-bill 2. When?: Awarded in spring semester 3. For whom?: Student majoring in Communicative Disorders 4. Competition pool: Departmental 5. Iowa Speech and Hearing Association Scholarship

1. Amount: $500 2. When? Awarded October 3. For whom? Graduate OR undergraduate students in communicative disorders 4. Competition pool: Communicative disorders departments of UNI and UI 5. How to apply: Nominated students request guidelines from Dr. Bohnenkamp, Scholarship Chair • Must have letter of recommendation from UNI Communicative Disorders faculty • Application & letters due early May – watch for announcement

 

Cedar Valley Sertoma Service Award

1. Amount: $1,000 2. When? Awarded in April for following academic year 3. For whom? Junior, Senior OR graduate students in Fall 4. Competition pool: Departmental 5. How to apply: • Secure application from Dr. Bohnenkamp • Application due February 15

 

Irene M. Thompson Scholarship

1. Amount: $300 to $500 2. When? Awarded in April 3. For whom? Either undergraduate (2.0 GPA) OR graduate (3.0 GPA) 4. Competition pool: CHFA wide 5. How to apply: • Graduates secure application from department office • One letter of recommendation from faculty member • Application due February 15
