College Portrait: About Cedar Valley

 

The University of Northern Iowa has a strong connection to Cedar Falls and the surrounding communities, a relationship that positively impacts all those living in the Cedar Valley region.

 

The average age of Cedar Falls citizens is almost 10 years younger than the national average, but even the older generation seems young at heart in thiscommunity of 36,400. Many Cedar Valley businesses have come to rely on UNI students as employees and offer internships that give graduates a leg up in the job hunt after college.

 

The Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley is a clearinghouse for more than 50 local agencies and organizations that appreciate the time and talent of UNI students.

 

Downtown Cedar Falls has restaurants to please all palates, nightlife and live entertainment venues, a community theatre, a locally owned coffee shop and gift stores, and parks along the river.

 

The College Hill business district is under renovation to improve the streetscape and make it a vibrant destination for visitors and residents alike.

 

Whether you were born in one of the local hospitals or grew up outside the 319 area code, when you come to UNI you'll find yourself at home in the Cedar Valley.
