Dr. Beverly Smith

Bev earned a bachelor’s degree in theater and speech and elementary education from Cornell College; and a master’s degree in educational psychology, a K-12 superintendency endorsement and a Ed.D. in educational leadership, all from UNI. She is currently the associate superintendent for human resources/equity with Waterloo Community Schools, a role she has held since 1996. She has also served as an elementary school principal, director of childcare services for AEA 7 and director of a child care facility. She was appointed to the Iowa Board of Regents in 1994, serving until 2001, and served an appointment to the Governor’s Education Roundtable from 2001-2002. She currently is serving an appointment as chair of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Bev is an adjunct faculty member at UNI and Wartburg College and received the UNI Multicultural Educator Award in 2009.
