I choose UNI because I loved the environment. I loved the smaller classes, the campus size, and location (far enough away from home, but not too far to go home for the day/weekend).
Why should students thinking about going into teaching come to UNI?
Anyone thinking about teaching should come to UNI because the teaching program provides many hands on experiences. Not only do you have your field experiences, but in some of your method classes you go out and work with children. For example, in my early literacy class we are paired with a first grader and become reading buddies. In my Elementary PE class we went to the Child Development Center to see how a gym class works and helped out. UNI really prepares future educators to not only become teachers, but to become GREAT teachers.
How has your academic experience been? Tell us about any great classes or professors that inspired or challenged you.
I love everything about UNI. My experience has been everything I could have imagined and more. I love all of my major classes. I wasn't looking forward to taking my general education classes, like world geography or humanities, but I've had great professors that made the classes interesting. My humanities class was challenging. I'm not much of history person, so it was harder for me to keep up with the reading. I learned the hard way how important it is to build good study habits.
Years from now, what will you remember the most about UNI?
Years from now, I'll definitely remember the professors who have really inspired me to become a better person and the best teacher I can be. I may not remember all of their content, but I'll remember them. I'll remember the life long friendships I've made with my fellow classmates.
