College of Education Senate Election
Procedures
COE Elections
1. DETERMINE COE
POSITIONS TO BE FILLED--March: These will
include both COE Senate positions and committees.
Note By-Laws 320, 321, and 351 of COE Senate.
2. REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS--March:
Send a call for nominations for all COE Senate positions
to a "COE Voting Faculty." Should any Department/School
have more than two nominees, an election will be conducted
within the Department/School by the COE Senator to
determine two candidates to run for the position.

3. SAMPLE BALLOT--March
: Prepare a sample ballot and distribute to all COE
Voting Faculty. (See Appendix
B) These positions include:
· COE Faculty Awards Committee
· COE Committee on Curriculum
· COE Graduate Studies Committee
· COE Senate
4. OFFICIAL BALLOT--April:
Distribute the official ballot to all COE Voting Faculty.
(See Appendix C)
5. ELECTION RESULTS: April
: Distribute the election results to all COE Voting
Faculty. (See Appendix D)
6. LETTERS OF CONGRATULATIONS:
May : Prior to the end of Spring Semester,
send individual letters of congratulations to faculty
elected to the COE Senate or to committee positions.
University Committee
Elections
1. DETERMINE COE POSITIONS
TO BE FILLED--March: The chairperson of the
University Committee on Committees will forward the
COE chairperson a list of University positions to
be filled.
2. REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS--March:
Send a call for nominations for all University Committee
positions to "COE Voting Faculty." (See
Appendix E)
3. SAMPLE BALLOT--March:
Prepare a sample ballot and distribute to all COE
Voting Faculty. (See Appendix
F)
4. OFFICIAL BALLOT--April:
Distribute the official ballot to all COE Voting Faculty.
(See Appendix G)
5. ELECTION RESULTS: April:
Distribute the election results to all COE Voting
Faculty. (See Appendix H)
6. LETTERS OF CONGRATULATIONS:
May: Prior to the end of Spring Semester,
send individual letters of congratulations to all
newly elected faculty.
Guidelines
1. Only COE faculty may be elected
to COE positions.
2. Only "COE Graduate Faculty"
may vote for the COE representative to the Graduate
Council. Therefore a separate ballot must be sent
for this position.
3. For both COE and University
elections a Sample Ballot will be distributed five
days prior to the election. Anyone NOT wishing to
run must contact the Election Chair.
4. Wait 48 hours after deadline
to count ballots.
5. When three or more candidates
are nominated for a single position, the Hare Election
System shall be used when count votes.
6. The ballots should be
retained for three months following the election.
