A new feature of the UNI PDS for fall 2009 is the Teacher-in-Residence program, which develops new leadership roles for teachers and deepens the theory-practice connection by bringing panels of teachers to the UNI Exploring Teaching course for a series of three presentations.

Up to 15 teachers are needed to facilitate three panels for three sections of the course. Teachers need to commit to all three dates for a given section to earn a stipend of $150.

Tuesday section panel dates: October 6th and 20th, November 17th 4:00-4:50 p.m.
Wednesday section panel dates: October 7th and 21st, November 18th, 5:00-5:50 p.m.
Thursday section panel dates: October 8th, 22nd, November 19th 5:30-6:20 p.m.

Classroom Management, including establishing a positive classroom climate, effective routines, procedures, and transitions, positive behavioral supports, establishing rapport and relationships, other tips and techniques.

Life as a Teacher, including daily schedule, multiple roles and responsibilities (planning, communicating with parents, after-school work with students, coaching, other), balancing work, family, education, and leisure, changes in your career over time and your career path, what teachers do in the summer, etc.
What would each teacher be responsible for?
  • Each teacher will have 5-7 minutes to discuss his/her approach to each issue and share a few concrete examples and resources that clearly illustrate the topic in classroom practice. There will be 15-20 minutes at the end for students to ask questions.
What is the compensation?
  • Teachers who participate in the full series of three panels for one of the course sections (Tues, Wed, or Thurs sections) will be paid a stipend of $150 and will receive a certificate of appreciation.

  • Participants will be selected to ensure that elementary, secondary, and K-12 teachers are represented. Panel membership will be finalized by September 25th
