UNI has been greatly enriched by these programs if we listen to the faculty involved. Many tell us that the experience of working with educators who are in the process of establishing democracy in the respective countries has made them appreciate their own democracy and the role education plays in sustaining democratic character and commitment. Several have said their teaching has changed completely. They report that their teaching reflects the lessons learned from having a global view of what is important, what is meaningful in life and what helps us understand our world and each other. Their teaching and service to students has gained a richness of texture and insights that was missing before their involvement. Finally, UNI is now a recognized leader in international democratic education reform in a vast part of the world.
