| Oversight
IRTS oversees day-to-day operations of the lab and supervises
student employees. A TML committee (sub-committee of the
COE Technology committee) exists to direct the overall goals
and plans for the lab. These goals and plans include adding
computers and software, uses for the server, and improving
instructional and informational materials for lab users.
Staffing
IRTS student employees staff the TML Monday through Friday.
This staff is available to maintain the lab, check students
in and out during open lab time, and to support and assist
faculty who use the lab for instructional purposes.
Software
TML software titles can be searched via UNIstar. Software
is available for use in the TML lab only. No software can
be removed from the lab. Software will be signed out during
use and signed in upon return. TML users who mishandle or
abuse the software may be required to pay for its replacement
if it becomes permanently damaged, or if parts of the software
package are not returned.
If
a faculty member wants to install software in the lab that
is not part of the TML collection, he or she must present
the original copy of the licensed software product to the
attending Information Technology Specialist (currently Neil
Clopton) for installation. TML will not participate in the
illegal installation and use of software.
Students
will not be allowed to install personal software on computers
in the TML.
Faculty
training
Faculty who wish to use the lab for instructional purposes,
for any length of time, must be trained by TML personnel
prior to using the lab. This training includes gaining familiarity
with the hardware and software, basic troubleshooting, and
use of the teacher station and server environment. Contact
Maxine Davis 273-3339 to schedule training.
Use
of room
Both semester-long courses and single class sessions can
be accomodated in the TML.
Scheduling
of the classroom is done by IRTS. The TML should be reserved
only by those who want to use the computer environment.
High demand for the computers prevents scheduling this room
for non-computer-related courses or class sessions.
Open
lab hours
Regular open lab hours will be established and posted, and
staffed by IRTS employees assigned to the TML.
Scheduling
Procedure
A minimum of seven days notice is required for scheduling.
Maxine Davis, IRTS, is responsible for scheduling. Please
call 273-6066.
Faculty
must be trained prior to first using the lab (see Faculty
training, above).
The
TML remains locked when not staffed, so key checkout is
necessary. Keys may be checked out from IRTS on a signout
basis. Keys must be returned promptly following class.
