IOWA TEACHER INTERN LICENSE PROGRAM:
The Board of Regents approved the Iowa Teacher Intern License (ITIL) program, a collaborative effort of Iowa's public universities. ITIL will provide a nontraditional teacher preparation program for professionals wishing to enter the field from other careers. The anticipated program start date is fall 2010. Merrie Schroeder, assistant professor, UNI Office of Student Field Experiences, will coordinate the program with Susan Lagos-Lavenz, associate dean of teacher education at the University of Iowa and David Whaley, associate dean of teacher education at Iowa State University. R&D SCHOOL APPROVED:
Last week, the governor signed the education appropriation bill supporting the development of Iowa's first statewide Research & Development
(R&D) school. UNI will be the home of the new R&D school as it aligns directly with the university's priorities and commitment to being a leader in pre-K through 12 education issues. To learn more about the R&D school, visit http://www.uni.edu/rdschool/.
