  • MISSION
The Institute for Educational Leadership, a unit of the College of Education at the University of Northern
Iowa, has as its primary mission to promote the improvement of elementary, secondary, and
post-secondary education throughout Iowa.  To fulfill this mission, the IEL serves as a catalyst for:
              1. Informed dialogue on educational issues impacting schools of Iowa, the region and nation
              2. Developing collaborative relationships with individuals and/or organizations external to schools
              3. Educational policy development

    WORKING
    CONFERENCES
The IEL strives to bring the knowledge base of practice into relationship with the university community, resulting in stimulating interaction which addresses complex leadership and educational issues. This knowledge offers innovative ideas and new insights that serve as a foundation for decision making and policy development.

The working conference format is a trademark of the IEL and the vehicle for bringing theory and practice together. Forty to fifty educators, university faculty and private sector leaders who have a keen interest in the issue, who are skilled communicators, and who are enthusiastic about exploring these challenges are organized to address critical issues. Each participant submits a short position paper in advance of the conference.
