Biography

     Dr. Susan Roberts-Dobie is an Assistant Professor in the Health Promotion and Education Division and the Director of the Speak UP! Salon Project.


     Speak UP! is part of the Iowa Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancies, a five-year research and policy program focused on reducing unintended pregnancy in Iowa women ages 18-30. Speak UP! partners with salons to provide reproductive health information to women by building on the natural rapport stylists have with their clients.


     Susan teaches courses including Implementing Health Promotion Programs and Introduction to Public Health. She heads UNI?s chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, the national honor society for Health Education students. She is the recipient of the 2006 UNI College of Education Excellence in Teaching Award, the award given each year to one faculty member exhibiting outstanding work with students in and out of the classroom and the 2008 Veridian Community Engagement Award in recognition of her efforts to engage her students in meaningful educational experiences outside the traditional classroom.


     Dr. Roberts-Dobie received her PhD in Public Health, focused on Research Methodology, from Oregon State University in 2004. Prior to her work at Oregon State, Dr. Roberts-Dobie worked as a Planning Consultant for the Black Hawk County Health Department and as the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coordinator for the YWCA of Black Hawk County.
