Biography
|
| Stacy Van Gorp has more than 15 years of experience in the field of youth and human services. Stacy is Director of American Humanics and Community Partnerships at the University of Northern Iowa . The mission of UNI American Humanics is to transform today's students into tomorrow's nonprofit leaders by helping them to gain experience skills and national certification in nonprofit management. Additionally, she helps to advise the MA in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development at the University of Northern Iowa . Her teaching focuses on philanthropy, fundraising and grantwriting, and nonprofit management.
Stacy formerly served as the Project Director for Opportunity Works, an initiative of the Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Northeast Iowa focused on reducing poverty in a rural/urban/tribal region. She was the Associate Director for the UNI Global Health Corps, a cultural competency training program, serving more than 7000 clients per year; and the Resource Development Director for the Cedar Valley United Way , raising nearly $2.5 million annually. She also has extensive experience working with youth internationally, and leading training programs for youth services staff. Additionally, Stacy led youth programs for refugees in Croatia , during the war in Yugoslavia .
Stacy is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Planning, Policy and Leadership Studies from the University of Iowa . She received her Masters of Arts degree in Women's Studies in 1997. She is an active volunteer including serving on the advisory board of the Iowa Women's Foundation for the past eight years. In 2006 she was awarded the Governor's Award for Volunteerism.

Director American Humanics and Community Partnerships, July 2005 to present, Division of Leisure, Youth and Human Services, University of Northern Iowa. Direct and implement the national American Humanics certification program, including teaching nonprofit management courses, advising the American Humanics student organization, supervising internships, and working with community advisory board. Temporary graduate faculty status for the MA in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development program.
Project Director, March 2002 to June 2006, Opportunity Works ¡V A project of the Community Foundation of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Northeast Iowa . Responsible for overall development and initial implementation of regional 10-year plan to reduce poverty. Engaged 5,000 diverse participants over two years from urban, rural, Tribal communities to develop the plan.
Instructor, School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services, Division of Leisure Youth and Human Services, The University of Northern Iowa, January 2000 to March 2002. Instructor responsibilities include preparing lectures, creating exams, facilitating discussion, providing guidance to interns & organizing guest speakers.
Associate Director, January 2000 to March 2002, UNI Global Health Corps, School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services, The University of Northern Iowa. Responsible for resource development for a $1 million start-up nonprofit (Global Health Corps). Tasks included organizational management, marketing, community partnership building, strategic planning, preparing grant proposals, researching prospective funders, and supervising staff and students.
Resource Development Director/Associate, January 1997 to January 2000, Cedar Valley United Way, Waterloo , Iowa . Progressively responsible for implementing annual fundraising campaign raising $2.44 million in 1999. Coordinated campaign activities of 6 staff members, 15 Loaned Executives & 150 community volunteers.
Director of Programming & Development, Graduate Assistantship, Academic Year, 1996 ¡V 1997, Women's Studies Program, The University of Northern Iowa. Planned, implemented & promoted 30+ programs. Communicated with Administrators, Advisory Board, community leaders & students for program promotion, fundraising & collaborative projects.
Research Assistant, Graduate Assistantship, Academic Year 1995-1996, Women's Studies Program, The University of Northern Iowa and Sofia , Bulgaria . Interviewed students & Gypsies in Bulgaria in collaboration with faculty member.
Housing Specialist, Spring 1995, Municipal Housing Agency, Oskaloosa , Iowa . Managed two Federal (HUD) housing assistance programs for 165 low-income families. Processed applicants, negotiated with owners, inspected units & mediated disputes.
