Biography

Larry D. Hensley received his MS degree from Indiana University and his doctorate from the University of Georgia , specializing in measurement/evaluation and research methods. He has taught at the University of Northern Iowa since 1979 and is currently a Professor of Physical Education. In addition, Dr. Hensley is the Director of the Youth Fitness & Obesity Institute, a center recently established with funding from the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to address the physical activity and nutrition needs of children and adolescents, particularly those residing in small towns and rural communities. In the 1999-2000 academic year he served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point . More recently, in 2004, Dr. Hensley served as Visiting Advisory Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at the Hong Kong Institute of Education. He is widely published, with more than 100 referred and non-referred articles, has extensive presentations in the US as well as abroad, and is a Fellow in the Research Consortium of AAHPERD. Dr. Hensley has served on the Iowa Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and Sport, is a Past-President of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education ( NASPE ) and remains actively involved in several professional associations. He currently serves as a Section Editor (Measurement and Evaluation) for the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. and is the Associate Editor for the Asian Journal of Exercise and Sport Science.
