Biography

|
Dr. Wilson came to UNI in the Fall of 1985 and has primarily taught courses in the Therapeutic Recreation option in the Leisure, Youth and Human Services Division. He became the Chair of the LYHS Division in 2003. Dr. Wilson is very active in several professional organizations and a frequent presenter for the National Therapeutic Recreation Association, the Iowa Therapeutic Recreation Association, and the Midwest Symposium on Therapeutic Recreation. He is the Area Director of Special Olympics Northeast Iowa and involves the LYHS students in running athletic competitions for Special Olympics athletes in nine sports throughout the year as well getting other UNI students campus- wide to volunteer at several of these events. He serves on the Boards of Directors of several organizations serving people with disabilities, including Special Olympics Iowa, Exceptional Persons Incorporated, Cedar Valley Inclusion Initiative at the Waterloo YMCA, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, and Disability Concerns Committee of Classis North Central Iowa Christian Reformed Church. Dr. Wilson is frequently asked to evaluate grants for the federal government.
