OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2006-2007

SCHOOL WIDE INITIATIVES

GOALS

Continue to review and implement recommendations from Academic Program Review
Construct the Human Performance Complex
Incremental implementation of the West Campus Plan
Identify five core areas for each division for advising services and at least two unique needs
Establish Peer Advising program in each division; identify core peer advising functions and
value added strategies for engaging peer advisors
Update HPELS website and briefing book
Begin construction on Wetlands Demonstration Park ; development of new recreational and athletic fields

ATHLETIC TRAINING INITIATIVES
GOALS
  • Continue to review and implement Academic Program Review recommendations
    Doctoral program intensive study area; seek external funding for program

  • Capture sports medicine as outreach public service

  • Implementation of LLC partnership

  • Seek accreditation for MS from NATA
    Seek re-accreditation for BA from CAAHEP

  • Seek NIH funding for research in the area of Athletic Training
HEALTH PROMOTION AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES
GOALS
Implement student outcome assessment protocol
  • Continue preparations for implementing doctoral program intensive study area
    Continue to market and develop 2+2 Program in Health Promotion and Education,
    especially examining the 2+2 Dental Health Program with Hawkeye Community
    College
    Plan for environmental health laboratory
  • Expansion of partnerships between Global Health Corps and health and human service agencies
  • Establish a strong Eta Sigma Gamma Chapter
  • Expansion of Project EXPORT connections with HBCU and other minority serving
    institutions
    Begin accreditation process for Environmental Health Degree and for Women's Health, Worksite Wellness and Disparities degrees
    Commence accreditation process under the auspices of SABPAC
  • Establish an active plan/approach for in-state and out-of-state minority recruiting
  • Re-establish external advisory board meetings
  • Examine/strengthen school health education curriculum n consideration of high school
    reform initiatives and health trends of youth
  • Continue to review and refine the curriculum

LEISURE, YOUTH AND HUMAN SERVICES INITIATIVES
GOALS
  • Implementation of park management with Hawkeye Community College
    Continue to review Institute of Youth Leaders
  • Seek (20 th year) re-accreditation from NRPA
  • Review student conduct standards
    Document, promote and enhance civic engagement activities
  • Continue to improve undergraduate advising procedures
    Assume responsibility for implementing summer camp and recreation job fair
  • Develop website and promotional materials for RS
  • Review opportunity to implement volunteer fair and program
PHYSICAL EDUCATION INITIATIVES
GOALS
  • Enhanced physical education teacher preparation program
    Infuse technology across the PE curriculum
    Implement Human Performance Institute
  • Incorporate MPLS PE faculty and curriculum into HPELS
  • Implement MA Exercise Science-Community Physical Activity Promotion program in Sibley, Iowa
  • Explore and develop Strength and Conditioning program within MA Exercise Science
