After acceptance to the program,
students with a disability should make their needs known to the Office
of Disability Services as soon as possible so that arrangements for
accommodations can be initiated. Students will be required to submit
relevant documentation that supports the specific request prior to receiving
accommodations. Providing this documentation of disability is the responsibility
of the student. Documentation should be recent, relevant, and comprehensive.
If the original documentation is incomplete or inadequate to determine
the extent of the disability or reasonable accommodations, the University
of Northern Iowa has the discretion to require additional documentation.
The mission of the Office of Disability Services is to ensure that all
persons with disabilities have access to university activities, programs,
and services, and to enhance the overall academic, career, and personal
development of students with a physical, psychiatric, or learning disability.
Located in room 213 of the Student Services Center, they can be contacted
by phone at 319-273-2676 (voice) or 319-273-3011 (TTY). Additional information
on documentation and services is available on their website, www.uni.edu/disability.
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) provides protection
from illegal discrimination for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Students, who feel their rights under the ADA have been violated, may
consult with the Director of Compliance and Equity Management.
