The University of Northern
Iowa, a state-supported school with approximately 14,000 students from
46 states and 73 countries, is located on the western side of the Cedar
Falls/Waterloo metropolitan area in northeast Iowa. Sitting on the banks
of the Cedar River, Cedar Falls and Waterloo provide the university
a multitude of leisure activities such as the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival,
College Hill Arts Festival, BBQ’Loo & Blues Too, Cedar Valley
Recreational Trails System, Hartman Reserve Nature Center, The Grout
Museums, Hearst Center for the Arts and much more.
For the eighth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report's 2005
America's Best Colleges has ranked UNI second in the “Midwestern
Universities – Master's” category for public universities.
In addition, UNI has been ranked among the nation's “Top 100 Values
in Public Colleges” by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.
The University of Northern Iowa began as a teacher preparation school
in 1876, making the College of Education the oldest department on campus.
Programs offered lead to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Master of
Arts, Master of Arts in Education, Specialist in Education, and Doctor
of Education (Ed.D.). The College of Education’s commitment to
excellence has established UNI as one of the Midwest’s premier
institutions for preparing teachers and school personnel such as school
psychologists.
