The College of Education offers a full range of programs in education-related fields (Bachelor through Doctorate) and is comprised of six academic departments: Curriculum and Instruction; Educational Leadership and Postsecondary Education; Educational Psychology and Foundations; Special Education; Teaching; and the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services.
The School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services (HPELS) is organized into four divisions: Athletic Training; Health Promotion and Education; Physical Education; and Leisure, Youth and Human Services. Programs are offered in athletic training; health promotion and education; leisure, youth and human services; movement and exercise science; and physical education-teaching. Degrees offered include B.A., M.A., M.S., and Ed.D. The School includes 110 faculty members, professional and scientific staff, merit employees, and graduate assistants. The School is housed in the national award winning Wellness/Recreation Center and the new Jacobson Human Performance Complex. This complex features laboratories for environmental health, biomechanics, exercise physiology, psychomotor behavior, strength and conditioning, athletic training, computer technology, wellness resources, and community planning. Also included are aerobic/dance studios, racquetball courts, multipurpose courts, jogging track, fitness areas, weight rooms, swimming pools, a climbing-wall, seminar rooms, classrooms, medical clinic, physical therapy clinic, hydrotherapy pool, and the Center for Healthy Youth Development.
Qualifications: Requirements include a Doctorate in health promotion, physical education, athletic training, leisure services, or related area; a record of effective teaching and scholarly activity suitable for a tenured, full professor appointment; successful administrative experience in higher education; experience securing external funds; and a record of community engagement.
Responsibilities: Provide visionary, synergistic leadership to attain and maintain excellence in undergraduate and graduate programs for both school and non-school settings; recruit, foster development, and evaluate a culturally diverse faculty and staff; enhance research and creative activity among faculty; represent all dimensions of the School to diverse audiences both internal and external to the University; administer the School budget, facilities, schedule, and all other aspects of the School’s planning and operation; work in collaboration with other academic, athletic, administrative, and student affairs personnel in program and facility management; develop partnerships and secure external resources to enhance the School’s development and national stature; and teach one course per semester.
