Graduate Assistantship
The Vice-President for Educational and Student Services provides leadership for the Division of Educational and Student Services. The Associate Vice-President/Dean of Students is responsible for the establishment and enforcement of policies governing non-academic student conduct, new student orientation, retention initiatives, parent programs, and management of the Follon Student Services Center. The graduate assistant will assist in the administration of student conduct policies, orientation programs, and other programs and services under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a University judicial officer; conduct informal judicial hearings with students; determine appropriate sanctions; and assist in the management of critical incidents.
2. Assist in the development and implementation of new student orientation programs; assist in the selection and training of student orientation leaders; evaluate program effectiveness; and assist in the development of publications and program content.
3. Coordinate communication and programming specifically targeted for off-campus students; maintain the off-campus student website; and provide leadership to the off-campus student advisory group.
4. Support the operation and management of the Follon Student Services Center; provide assistance in the promotion of the center and its services; conduct a regular student satisfaction survey; and assist in the day to day operation of the Center.
5. Coordinate meetings of the Vice-President’s student advisory group.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Vice-President, Dean of Students, or Asst. Dean of Students.
Period of Employment: August 21, 2006-May 11, 2007. Graduate assistant will work 15-20 hours per week. Additional summer employment may be possible upon mutual agreement.
Compensation: $7,472 stipend and full in-state tuition for the academic year.
Qualifications: Candidate must be a full-time degree-seeking student in a graduate program (postsecondary education/student affairs, counseling, or related field preferred); excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal and organization skills; demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and to conduct oneself in a highly professional and ethical manner. Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word is desirable along with knowledge of web page development.
