The UNI Graduate College provides campus-wide leadership for Graduate Education, with the cooperation and collaboration of the five Academic Colleges and other divisions of the University. Graduate Education at the University of Northern Iowa provides selected programs of advanced study, research and creative activity grounded in a personalized and diverse graduate community that prepares successful practitioners, scholars and professional leaders.
Graduate Assistantship as Assistant Editor, UNIversitas: The University of Northern Iowa Journal of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity.
The assistant editor of UNIversitas works 20 hours per week as directed by Dr. Michael Waggoner, Editor of UNIversitas. For additional information on the journal, please go to www.uni.edu/universitas/ Responsibilities of this position include:
- Proofreading and editing manuscripts and other forms of copy for publication, making stylistic, structural, factual, and grammatical corrections
- Communicating with authors on issues of form, style, and content
- Working with technology staff (ITS) on production matters
- Preparing final copy for web publication
In addition to the general qualifications described in the position announcement above, specific required qualifications for this assistantship include:
- At least fall 08 and spring 09 full time graduate coursework remaining in the program of study
- Excellent communication skills, especially in the areas of English grammar and style
- Thorough familiarity with MS Word
- Conscientious attention to detail
- The ability to maintain confidentiality about submissions and publication decisions.
Desired qualifications for this position:
- Editing experience
- Familiarity with publishing software (e.g. Pagemaker, Publisher, Quark Express
Compensation:
A Graduate Assistantship Stipend of $8392 for the 2008-09 academic year, and tuition scholarship will be provided.
