GENERAL INFORMATION:  The role of the ROTH Graduate Residence Life Coordinator is of providing general leadership and guidance to the staff and students of the ROTH Complex while receiving assistance from the Area Coordinator to initiate, implement, maintain and evaluate programs, leadership development, office assistance and operations in the residence halls which will result in the greatest growth for the individual student and the living groups as a whole. 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: primarily responsible for supervising personnel and the total educational and developmental program within an apartment and suite residence hall including advising student government; program development and implementation; and administrative detail.

 

STAFFING

  1. Recruits and selects the resident assistant staff for the complex utilizing a comprehensive selection procedure which is developmental for candidates, developing selection criteria applicable to supervision, and appropriate correspondence and record keeping.
  2. Develops and conducts orientation and continuous on-going training for resident assistants; plans jointly with other residence life coordinators appropriate campus-wide on-going education for RAs.
  3. Supervises resident assistant staff, both individually and as a group, regarding the daily and long-term operation of the complex, community development and programming, campus housing issues, work schedules, policies and procedures, special problems, and personal concerns.
  4. Develops and implements a comprehensive annual evaluation of resident assistants with an emphasis on assessment of past performance and goal setting.
  5. Supervises the complex office operation; coordinates selection, training and supervision of student office assistants and mail assistants.
  6. Serves as a resource to other residence life coordinators in the performance of their responsibilities; and shares specialized skills and areas of expertise.
  7. Provide on-call responsibilities for the Department of Residence system, on a rotation schedule with other staff.

STUDENT FOCUS

  1. Serves as advisor to the student senate in the fulfillment of their responsibilities.
  2. Serves in an advisory and consulting capacity to individual students and student groups with regard to University and Department of Residence policies and procedures; understands and makes referrals to appropriate agencies and Educational and Student Services departments; and provides individual counseling and advising.
  3. Works with the resident assistants and student senate and the Assistant Director of Residence/Education in offering a broad selection of cultural, educational, social and recreational programs; helps sustain a record keeping and evaluation process for programming; and trains students in the methods of programming.
  4. Assists the Area Coordinator to work effectively with disciplinary problems and procedures; facilitates the resolution of conflict between individuals and groups; facilitates student involvement in the resolution of behavior problems and conflicts.
  5. Provides encouragement and motivation for students in the complex with regard to their academic work. Creates and implements academically related programs including career exploration, program planning, study skills and research information sessions.

DEPARTMENTAL FOCUS

  1. Works with the Assistant Director of Residence/Marketing and Conference Services to support the Department of Residence summer conference program.
  2. Represents the Department of Residence to parents, guests and members of the University community.
  3. Serves on departmental committees in a variety of areas including professional development series, Resident Assistant training, recognition, selection, staff development and the annual regional RA Conference.
  4. Actively supports the departmental strategic plan initiatives.
  5. Assists the Associate Director of Residence/Housing in the selection process for new professional staff members.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Maintains records of complex activities, incident documentation, and other records consistent with current policies.
  2. Administers financial procedures in the hall in cooperation with the Department of Residence. Assists the appropriate student senate officers in financial transactions, budgeting, and record keeping of student activity appropriations.
  3. Maintains regular contact with the Department of Residence office relative to the operation, room assignments, and special situations within the complex. Utilizes central Department of Residence office staff resources for long-term planning.
  4. Assists the Director of Residence in the formulation and facilitation of Department of Residence policies and procedures.
  5. In conjunction with the University Health Center, coordinates the health aide program in the hall to promote health consciousness and react to immediate health needs.
  6. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with custodial, maintenance and other appropriate university staff.
