Admission
Criteria
Admission to the program will be granted to those applicants who provide evidence of prior academic success; successful and appropriate professional experience; effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and professional and academic goals which may be effectively served by the degree program offered. Additional criteria may be established by an area of intensive study since some previous specialization work is presumed. Requirements
for regular admission (degree status) include:
6. Applicants for whom English is not their first language must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language Examination (TOEFL) and achieve a score of at least 600. Provisional admission (provisional degree status) may be recommended for an applicant who does not meet all of the requirements or for whom it is felt that further graduate course work or professional experience would be useful in making the admission decision. An individual admitted to provisional degree status must be formally reconsidered for regular admission. Admission Procedures 1. A completed Application for Graduate Study, College of Education essay application and three letters of recommendation must be sent to: Ed. D. Applications, Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Postsecondary Education, College of Education, UNI, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0604. 2. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate study must be sent to UNI's Registrar's Office (243 Gilchrist Hall) c/o Graduate Admissions, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50614-0006 . "Official" means from Registrar to Registrar. No transcripts handled by students will be acceptable. 3. Official GRE General Test -- Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing -- scores must be received from the Educational Testing Service in order to be considered for admission. Scores should be sent to the UNI Registrar's Office, c/o Graduate Admissions, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50614-0006. 4. The applicant will be notified when applicant's file is complete. 5. Decisions for summer/fall admission will be made on completed applications received prior to February 1. Those applicants may expect a decision by the end of March.
