Thank you for your interest in the Educational Leadership
Program at the University of Northern Iowa.
The program is well-respected throughout the state and nation for
the quality of educational leaders who have emerged from the program
at UNI. The Educational Leadership Program includes the development
of a cohort structure for the facilitation of a learning community
and a format for the internship experience which provides students
the opportunity to build a foundation of extensive administrative
and leadership experiences before entering a principalship or superintendency
position. The components of the program provide optimal learning
opportunities and quality service to each and every student enrolled.
Students entering the Educational Leadership Program have several
options. Students can earn a Master's degree in the Principalship,
an Advanced Studies Certificate (ASC) in the Principalship,
an ASC in the Superintendency, and a Doctoral Degree (Ed.D.)
which could embrace course work in any of the preceding areas of
study.
Students may enter the program in the following ways:
(1) Students entering the Educational Leadership Master's Program
will receive a Master's Degree and certification in PK-12 Principal/PK-12
Supervisor of Special Education upon successful completion of
the program of study.
(2) Students entering the Educational Leadership Program with
a Master's Degree can earn the Principalship Certification (PK-12
Principal/PK-12 Supervisor of Special Education) and the ASC upon
successful completion of the program of study.
(3) Students entering the Educational Leadership Program with
a Master's Degree and Principalship Certification can receive
the Superintendency Certification and earn the ASC upon successful
completion of the program of study.
(4) Students entering the program with a Master's Degree and
the Principalship Certification can simultaneously earn the Superintendency
Certification (ASC) and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
This option is designed individually for each student as he/she
