Special Education Consultant

 

Students who hold or will be holding a Master of Arts in Education or hold a Master's Degree in Education may receive the Special Education Consultant endorsement by successfully completing the following program from the University of Northern Iowa.

Option 1:  Complete the Master of Arts in Education-Special Education Consultant Emphasis

 

Option 2:  Complete the Master of Arts in Education and 30 graduate hours in Special Education, Instructional. These hours may be a part of, or in addition to, the degree requirements.

 

ELEMECML 6221  Analysis and Design of Curriculum for Young Children, 3 Hours

       or

ELEMECML 6270  Developments in Middle School/Junior High Curriculum, 3 Hours

SPED 6240  Collaborative Consultation I: The Relationship, 3 Hours

SPED 6248  Collaborative Consultation II: The Process, 3 Hours

SPED 6290  Practicum in Special Education - Consultation, 3 Hours

SPED 6289  Seminar in Special Education,3 Hours

SPED 6290  Practicum in Special Education - Interdisciplinary

 

ELECTIVES IN SPECIAL EDUCATION  -- 12 Hours

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  1. The student must hold special Education certification in the disability category in which they intend to hold Consultant endorsement.
  2. The student must have four years of successful teaching experience, two of which are congruent with the Special Education Consultant certification desired.
