School Psychology graduate student - class of 2015
Why did you choose UNI’s School Psychology program?
I chose UNI's School Psychology program because of the relatable and encouraging faculty and staff, challeging academic program, and because I felt if would successfully prepare me for a career in school psychology.
What experiences did you have prior to UNI? (undergraduate, work, etc)
I did my undergraduate work at Luther College, where I graduated with a major in psychology and minors in math and social welfare. After graduating, I worked at a residential care facility before coming to UNI. I had always been interested in both psychology and education, so school psychology seemed like a good way to combine those two interests.
What have you gained from the School Psychology program at UNI?
As of now, I've gained a greater understanding of the various roles school psychologists have. I appreciate the fact that we began our practicum experiencs in the school right away in the fall. I believe this is a distinct advantage of UNI's School Psychology program.
What are your career plans after UNI?
After UNI, I plan to start my career as a school psychologist somewhere in the Midwest.
Any advice for prospective students?
I found that visiting campus was really helpful, not only in making my decision for where I wanted to go to grad school, but also for learning more about a career in school psychology.
What is something unique about you?
I really enjoy music, and I love playing piano in my spare time.
