Student Outdoor Leadership Education (Club S.O.L.E.). Founded in 2001by Dr. Kathy Scholl, SOLE focuses on fostering leadership development through outdoor experiences while building a greater relationship with the environment through protection, improvement, exploration, community service, outdoor recreation, and fellowship. Its members are comprised of college students from various UNI departments such as Leisure, Youth, and Human Services; Earth Science; and Natural History. Program activities have included projects within the local community, including junior high and high school recreation programming for Price Laboratory School, UNI's Camp and Recreation Fair, Dry Run Creek clean-up, collaborative activities with UNI Outdoors and prairie burning restoration along Cedar Valley Nature Trail. SOLE members have also participated in environmental education trainings such as "Leave No Trace" and "Project Wild". Members annually prepare and present environmental education curriculum at Hartman Reserve Nature Center's Earth Fair.
