Admission to Division of School Library Studies
Master's Degree Program
" School Librarians Are Teachers First!"
Prospective graduate students should make an appointment to discuss their goals with the Program Coordinator. All students must file an official application form following the requirements of the graduate college. Complete application directions and procedures are found on the Graduate College Website
When the application is received, it will be considered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Graduate Application Committee. Students will receive response letters once the paperwork has proceeded through a number of offices; this process may not be completed quickly. Students should feel free to register for 350:114g (Introduction to School Library Program) before they have been formally admitted. |

- No Tests Required for Admission: The Department of Curriculum & Instruction does not require any tests to be taken for admission.
- English Proficiency: Students from countries where the native language is not English are required to take the TOEFL, and examination of English Proficiency. Foreign Exchange Students should contact the International Student Services Organization at the University of Northern Iowa for explanation of the requirements.
- Distance Learning: Students take a few courses through the Iowa Communications Network (ICN), a fiber optic network with sites in many locations throughout the state. There are also three courses offered through WebCT, a web-based instruction program. For more information on these courses, please visit the course descriptions page. To register, contact Continuing Education.
The School Library Studies program allows the student the option to write or not write a thesis.
- Portfolio: All students are required to develop an electronic comprehensive portfolio.
The Master's degree program requires a minimum of 36-38 credit hours of coursework.
