Minor/Endorsement Program

K-6 or 7-12 Endorsement with Undergraduate Teaching Certificate

The Division of School Library Studies offers some options for students who do not wish to pursue a master's degree. Prospective students should make an appointment to discuss their goals with the program coordinator.

  1. Graduate Students may elect to earn either the K-6 or 7-12 endorsement in school library studies depending on their level of teaching certification. The endorsement requires 24 hours of coursework.

  2. Undergraduates who are teaching majors, either elementary or secondary, can build an Iowa media endorsement for the appropriate level by carrying the minor/endorsement in School Library Studies. Students must reach junior status (and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program) before taking classes. The minor/endorsement is 24 hours, including a practicum. Students may waive the practicum by doing half of their student teaching in a library situation. Situations vary so greatly, that it is important to speak with the Program Coordinator as early as possible. Students must take 350:114g, Introduction to School Library Program, as their first course in the program. Other classes may be taken during the same term.

Students who are not teaching majors must talk with the Coordinator before taking any classes.
