350:114 (g) Introduction to the School Library Media Program: Rationale for school library programs; influences which shape their development. This course is offered via the Internet as a modular course. On-campus attendance on two Saturdays, a web-based component and a field work experience are all part of the requirements. a course portfolio is also completed. This class is a prerequisite for all other coursework. For more information, please contact Continuing Education.

350:115 (g) Organization of Information: An introduction and use of MARC record. Application of AACR2r descriptive cataloging rules; principles and use of the Dewy Decimal Classification and Sears subject headings; adaptations and procedures for all formats found in library media centers. Concepts of organization of information applied to networks.



350:132 (g) Library Resources for Children: Survey of school media with attention to selection principles, evaluation criteria, and utilization of book and non-book media for elementary school curriculum.

350:134 (g) Library Resources for Young Adults: Selection and evaluation of curricular-related materials for secondary school students' reading, viewing and listening interests, habits, and needs.

350:223 School Library Curriculum Development: Role of Library Media Specialists in school curriculum development projects, development of integrated information skills curriculum and instructional strategies, professional development programs.

350:225 Administration of the School Library Center: Special problems in organization and administration of library media centers.

350:230 Library Automation Systems and Networking: Emphasis on computer-related systems and networks in schools and library media programs. Planning and implementing systems; on-line network requirements and uses.

350:250 Reference Services and Information Retrieval: The study of basic reference sources in all technologies. Introduction to question negotiation, search strategies, and evaluation of information delivery/approaches and systems. Provision of reference services in school settings.

350:285 Individualized Readings: Directed study of specific issue or problem based on student's need or aspirations. May be take for one to three credit hours. Prerequisite: Written Consent of Instructor (Not required, taken as needed)

350:289 Seminar: Inquiry Learning & Information Learning: An in-depth exploration of the process approach to information skills with a focus on curriculum integration. Prerequisite: 350:223

350:290 Practicum: Practicum is designed for students who have had no library media center experience and who have not completed student teaching in a library media center. Students will have opportunities to observe a center in operation, to put into practice their classroom preparation, and to assume the responsibility for handling typical library media situations.

350:295 Research in Library and Information Science: Basic techniques of research methodology--descriptive, survey, content analysis, and case study; includes critical evaluation of library/media center studies and their influence on, or application to, services organizations and administration.

350:299 Research: Focuses on the process of completing the research study; project or thesis. This course must be taken during the semester when the study is completed and can be repeated. May be taken for one to three credit hours. Students typically register for one credit hour. Prerequisite: 350:295

350:289 Seminar: Web Design for School Libraries:
Evaluation, Design, and Creation of web sites for school libraries.

240:150 (g) Educational Television Production: An introductory survey of the fundamental techniques of educational television production designed to provide students with beginning knowledge, practical theory, and basic experience in the planning and producing of educational television materials.

240:139 (g) Media Planning and Production: Planning steps essential for media production: processes, equipment, techniques, and services needed for the production of media.
