Valerie Becker Charles & Dorothy Tubbs Math Education Scholarship Recipient

Valerie Becker’s scholarship support was made possible through the generosity of Charles and Dorothy Tubbs… "We enjoy knowing that our scholarships for math and early childhood education majors will be assisting students who choose teaching as a career by lightening their financial burden. Research has proven that students who work more than 15-20 hours per week are less likely to do well academically and participate in extracurricular activities. Major/Minor: Secondary Math Education with a minor in Spanish

Hometown: St. Joe (Algona), IA

Leading and Volunteering: I currently play the piano for mass on Sundays at St. Stephens. I also am the piano player for an ensemble there and am planning on playing the piano for another ensemble this semester.

Why UNI is special to me: I've wanted to come to UNI since I was in 7th grade. I love everything about UNI and of course it has the best teaching program in the world.

Favorite Campus Setting : I love living in the dorms and having everyone so close by. It's a great chance to meet so many good friends and have a good time.
