Faculty and Friends:
On Friday, October 22nd, the 5th Teacher Institute
will be held at Price Laboratory School. The first
Teacher Institute was in October of 2002 at PLS. Over
1000 teacher education students have participated
in the first four Institutes, attending over 60 different
workshop sessions offered by PLS educators at each
Teacher Institute. The Teacher Institute is offered
at no cost to participants and is designed to enrich
the experience of UNI teacher education.
Bill Callahan, Associate Dean of the College of Education
and Director of PLS, has offered these comments regarding
the Teacher Institute, "Price Laboratory School
is very pleased to provide the Teacher Institute.
Last year PLS faculty made over 100 state, national,
and international professional presentations and held
over 50 offices or leadership positions in professional
organizations. The Teacher Institute provides opportunities
for the Teacher Education students to see the scholarly
projects and expertise of the PLS faculty beyond their
classroom participation experiences. The first two
years of the Teacher Institute program have been a
great success. Nearly all participants have given
enthusiastic praise for the program in evaluations
conducted at the conclusion of each Teacher Institute.
The Teacher Institute idea is now a fixture in the
Teacher Education Calendar. Many Teacher Education
Faculty members in other departments and colleges
now offer special incentives to their students for
participation in the program. PLS teachers and staff,
along with their colleagues in other departments and
colleges, are excited to provide this valuable professional
development day for our UNI students."
Complete information about this fall's Teacher Institute
is now available at:

Please encourage all Teacher Education students in
all your classes to access the web page, and to make
plans to attend. On the web page they will find information
about all 65 sessions in three different formats:
by presenter name, by time, and by grade level. For
sessions whose title may not be self-explanatory,
there is also a link for expanded descriptions, as
well as a copy of the official press release sent
out to UNI public relations.
Students do NOT have to register in advance. They
are welcome to attend as many sessions as they can.
If they would like additional information about any
particular session, they should contact the presenter(s)
via email directly.
