College of Education Award Winners:

Lowell Hoeft, Instructor, Office of Student Field Experiences received Distinguised Service Award from the Iowa World Language Teachers Association.

Mary H. West, President of the IWLA commented "this award is conferred only when we recognize a member who has given outstanding service both to students and to the profession. Lowell has been recognized as an outstanding teacher of French in Wisconsin, where he began his career. He has taught in France on a Fullbright. We add our recognition of a long a distinguished career and wish him well in his current position of preparing pre-service teachers."

Patricia L. Sitlington, Professor, Special Education was honored as the first recipient of the Patricia l. Sitlington Research Award in Transition. This award was presented at the International Conference of the Council of Exceptional Children in April, 2006.

In October, 2005, the Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT) created an award to recognize outstanding research in the field of ransition to adult life. The award was named the Patricia L. Sitlington Research Award in Transition. DCDT is the major national organization in the field of transition. Patricia L. Sitlington was honored as the first recipient of the Patricia L. Sitlington Research Award in Transition at the International Conference of the Council for Exceptional Children in April, 2006.

Aaron Spurr, an instructor in science at the University of Northern Iowa's Malcolm Price Laboratory School, has been honored by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers with the Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award for the organization's Central section. The award is given to recognize outstanding contributions to earch science teaching at the high school level.

Jill Uhlenberg, Curriculum and Instruction, received the Sally J.
Frudden Award for Ethics and Caring. Award was presented at a ceremony
held on November 17.
