Price Laboratory School to Receive State School of Character Award

Price Laboratory School at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls will receive the 2007 State School of Character Award through the National Schools of Character program, sponsored by the Character Education Partnership (CEP).

With the statewide win, Price Laboratory School advanced to the National Schools of Character competition. The Character Education Partnership will review all State School of Character Award winners and present multiple National Schools of Character Awards, all who will receive a $20,000 grant to enhance their character education initiative.

The award recognizes schools or districts that excel in exemplifying CEP's Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education and demonstrates an outstanding character education initiative that yields positive results in student behavior, school climate and academic performance.

The State School of Character program was sponsored by the Institute for Character Development at Dake University.

Price Laboratory School will be recognized along with three other top State School of Character applicants at the Institute's Annual Iowa Character Awards banquet on April 20th in Des Moines.

On March 1, 2007 Janice Stoodley, Director of the National Schools of Character at CEP, contacted Mr. Dave Smith, PLS Director, to inform him that Price Laboratory School was selected as a finalist for the 2007 National Schools of Character Award. A two-person evaluation team will be visiting Price Laboratory School in April. In May, a panel of professionals in the field of character education will select the 10 National Schools of Character for 2007.
